"I am a 51 year old pigeon fancier living in Pretoria South Africa. I have pigeons since the tender age of 8 years old. Started of with Birmingham Rollers and stuck with them for a long time. (Just loved the true Spinners).
Racing Pigeons came only in 1991. I lifted my horisons in recent times, replacing my racing stock birds with families that has outperformed 10,000 to 15,000 pigeons in our spectacular car race events. Multiple car winners was about the standard that I set for myself. In daylife I am a computer programmer. I have therefore also written a top notch pigeon management program. Very easy to use and very affordable pigeon software. My other hobby is fine art in oils (realism) Corel reefs and awesome Woods,and 'The Big Five' are my favourites, however beautiful seascapes or sunsets turns me on as well. If you should think that they are photographs, I would not blame you. I have learned that good and healthy lofts and sound loft management are important, but make sure you have the best pigeons you can get ! With a bit of extra elbow grease they will make you very happy! A donkey can not race in a competition against thoroughbreds. I call it 'the brilliance of countenance factor', If a pigeon has that sparkle of appearance, intelligence and character you will have so much more of a chance to have a sire or dam in your loft that will turn out winner after winner. (I like brilliance and intelligence, the rest I tolerate, most of the times...) There is another thing I call: 'to be on a mission with the task at hand'. I have watched pigeons, the ones that are concentrating and are committed to the task on hand, they will also fly with that commitment and breed those qualities. I love to share my enthusiasm with the future Fanciers! My son has already got his own pigeons and loft. Trust me, he loves em pigeons.
